Terms of service.

These Terms are a binding agreement between you and Trailmix. They cover how you may use the app, the important safety limits of what it does, and how we handle liability. Please read them — the safety and liability sections in particular. Last updated July 6, 2026.

1. Who these terms are between

Trailmix,” “we,” “us,” and “our” mean the operators of the Trailmix trip-planning application at app.trailmix.camp and this website. “you” means the person using the service, whether as a trip organiser with an account or as a crew member who joined from an invite link. By creating an account, joining a trip, or otherwise using Trailmix, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the service.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Trailmix, and old enough to form a binding contract where you live. If you're using Trailmix on behalf of a group, you confirm you have the authority to accept these Terms for the trip you create and to invite the people you invite.

3. Accounts and invites

Organisers create an account with an email address. You're responsible for keeping access to that account secure and for everything that happens under it. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has gained access.

Crew members join from an invite link without an account. If you share an invite link, you're responsible for who you share it with — anyone with the link can join that trip. Only invite people you intend to plan a trip with.

4. What Trailmix is — and what it is not

Trailmix is a planning tool. It helps a group organise a backpacking trip: a shared route, roster, gear list, camps, rides, and estimates for food, water, and a fair carry weight. These outputs are estimates and organisational aids, not professional advice and not guarantees.

Trailmix is not a navigation, mapping, emergency, medical, nutritional, or safety service. It does not track your location in the field, does not summon help, and does not replace maps, a compass or GPS, permits, weather forecasts, ranger guidance, medical advice, or your own judgement. Cell and data coverage is unreliable in the backcountry — do not rely on Trailmix being reachable once you leave the trailhead. Carry the maps, permits, and equipment your route actually requires.

5. Safety is your responsibility

Backpacking carries real and serious risks — including injury, illness, exposure, getting lost, and death. You and your crew are solely responsible for your own safety and decisions. The weights, distances, food and water figures, and routes Trailmix produces are approximations that depend on the information you enter and on conditions we can't know. Always verify them against current, authoritative sources — official maps, land-manager and ranger information, permit requirements, and up-to-date weather — and use your own experience and judgement. Never carry more than is safe for you, and never let a number in an app override what your body or the conditions are telling you. If you're unsure whether a trip is within your ability, don't go.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• break the law or infringe anyone's rights while using Trailmix;
• upload content that is unlawful, harassing, hateful, or that you don't have the right to share;
• impersonate someone else or misrepresent who you are;
• probe, scrape, overload, reverse engineer, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the service or other users' trips;
• use another crew member's private information in ways they haven't agreed to;
• use Trailmix to build or train a competing product.

7. Your content

You keep ownership of the information you add — trip details, names, gear, and the figures behind your carry limit. You grant us a limited licence to store, process, and display that content to the people on your trip and to operate and improve the service, as described in ourPrivacy page. You're responsible for the accuracy of what you enter and for having the right to share anything about other people. Body-stat figures behind a carry limit are kept private from the rest of the crew, as described in the Privacy page.

8. Our content

Trailmix — the app, its design, code, name, and branding — belongs to us and is protected by intellectual-property law. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the service to plan your trips. You may not copy, resell, or create derivative works from it except as these Terms allow.

9. Beta service, availability, and changes

Trailmix is in beta and offered free of charge. That means features may change, break, or be removed, and the service may be unavailable at times. We may add, modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service at any time without liability. We don't promise the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any estimate it produces is accurate.

10. Third-party services

Trailmix relies on third parties to host the app, store data, deliver email, and provide map and elevation data. We're not responsible for those services' own acts, outages, or content, and your use of them may be subject to their terms.

11. Disclaimer of warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Trailmix is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the routes, weights, food and water figures, or any other output are accurate, complete, or suitable for your trip.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Trailmix and the people behind it will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, or for any personal injury, illness, or death, arising out of or related to your use of — or inability to use — the service or your reliance on anything it produces. Because Trailmix is provided free of charge, our total liability to you for all claims relating to the service will not exceedUSD $100. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain of these limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

13. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Trailmix and the people behind it from any claims, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your use of the service, your content, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of the law or anyone's rights — including claims brought by members of a trip you organised or joined.

14. Termination

You can stop using Trailmix at any time and ask us to delete your account or data. We may suspend or end your access if you breach these Terms or to protect the service or other users. The sections that by their nature should survive — including content ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and indemnity — survive termination.

15. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, and the courts of British Columbia will have jurisdiction — except where the law where you live gives you mandatory rights that can't be overridden.

16. Changes to these terms

We're still building, so these Terms may change. When they do, we'll update the date at the top of this page. If a change is significant we'll try to give reasonable notice. Continuing to use Trailmix after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
